二木島Project

二木島は三重県熊野市の漁村集落のひとつです。

当時は漁業やみかん農業が盛んな町でしたが、人口減少や少子高齢化の波を受けて人々がより利便性の良い場所に移り住んでいった結果、漁業を中心としていたまちから養殖以外の漁業がなくなってしまいました。

しかし、山側を見れば世界遺産の熊野古道が走り、港の先端の岬には神武天皇が難破した際に村人が助けた歴史を祀る神社が建立されているなど、歴史的にも貴重な遺産を残す自然の力がみなぎる場所です。

そんな場所に漁業を復活させ、持続可能な形で維持していく方法はないかと様々な方が集まりプロジェクトは進行していきます。

多方面から同時多発的に物事が交差するようになってきた二木島で、まちそのものや住民の方々を置き去りにするのではなく、プロジェクトがしっかりと土着し相互作用を起こしながら成長していくためには、しっかりとした場所の読み込みと空間デザイン、人々の関係から生まれる可能性、仕組みづくりを考えていく必要があります。

「新規事業」として変革を起こすのではなく、「継承」として変容していくようなまちのあり方を目指すまちづくり。

そんなことを考えながら、これまでとこれからのプロジェクトがまちの空間に履歴として蓄積し時間的奥行きを持った空間となるよう、まちのデザインを提案しています。

Nigijima is one of the fishing villages in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture.

At that time, fishing and mandarin orange farming were thriving in the town, but as a result of people moving to more convenient locations in response to the nation's declining population and aging society with fewer children, fishing other than aquaculture has disappeared from the town, which had been centered on fishing.

However, if you look at the mountain side, you can see the World Heritage Site Kumano Kodo, and on the cape at the tip of the port, there is a shrine dedicated to the history of Emperor Jinmu, who was saved by the villagers when he was shipwrecked.

Various people have come together to discuss ways to revive the fishing industry in such a place and maintain it in a sustainable manner, and the project is now underway.

In order for the project to grow and develop while firmly establishing itself and causing interaction, rather than leaving the town itself and its residents behind, it is necessary to consider the possibilities that arise from a thorough reading of the site, spatial design, and relationships between people, as well as the creation of a mechanism. In order for the project to grow while creating a solid indigenous and interactive relationship between people, it is necessary to consider the creation of a structure.

Town development that aims to create a town that transforms itself not as a “new project,” but as an “inheritance.

With this in mind, we are proposing a town design that will allow past and future projects to accumulate in the town space as a history, and to create a space with temporal depth.
